The good news is that you may not even have to spend any money while at it. The Bullock Texas State History Museum is one of the museums you can start with. It is usually free for people visiting on every first Sunday of the month. The Contemporary Austin, on the other hand, offers free entry every second Saturday of the month, while the Blanton Museum of Art is free every Thursday. This would be the best opportunity to learn about American history and culture.
5. Check out the Barton Creek Greenbelt
