About the Los Angeles Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers known as the LA Clippers are based in Los Angeles, California. They are an American professional basketball team that compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as members of the Pacific Division of the league’s Western Conference. They play their home games at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.
LA Clippers' Timeline
The LA Clippers’ franchise was first named the Buffalo Braves when founded in 1970 in Buffalo, New York. In 1978, they moved to San Diego, California where they became known as the San Diego Clippers. Later in 1984, the Clippers moved to Los Angeles and they were renamed again now to LA Clippers. The Clippers were not doing well in the American professional sports array and when compared to the successful Lakers, they were seen as a perennial losing team.
However, the Clippers’ got a break—a very lucky break in the early part of 2010s when Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, and Chris Paul joined the team. Things were changed and the Clippers saw results and three years later, in 2013, the team won its first division title. Their luck turned into a winning culture leading them to the playoffs each season, a club record 57 wins in 2014 and coming within a game of the Western Conference Finals in 2015.
In 2015-16, the team was doing good with its fourth straight campaign with a minimum of at least 50 wins, but they ran into problems when Paul and Griffin each suffered injuries in the Clippers’ fourth postseason game, and
once again they did not go past the opening round of the play-offs. The Clippers once again managed another 50-win campaign in 2016-17 and stumbled into the play-offs, nevertheless, they had a seven-game loss in the opening round. This was a historic event, the LA Clippers became the first team in NBA history to lose for five straight season a postseason series that had a point led at some point in time. Unfortunately, the Clippers lost Paul the following off-season and Griffin was traded away several months after he had signed an extension with the team. And the Clippers six-season play-off streak ended in 2017-18.
Nevertheless this season according to Dan Devine in the article “The Clippers Haven’t Needed a Superstar to Be Great,” “With the exception of the Raptors, Doc Rivers’s Clippers might be the deepest team in the NBA. . . . The Clippers don’t look like most of the elite teams we’ve grown accustomed to seeing, and they don’t look like the star-studded contender they hope to be someday very soon, but they look solid, sensible, and very real. They’re not flawless, but you have to work overtime to find the imperfections, and by the time you’ve got them, Doc’s just gone to his bench to find something else that works. So far, just about all of it is working. The result is an awfully entertaining and potent bridge to whatever comes next in Los Angeles.”
